The DDF Periscope editor provides the following functionality:
- DDF dictionaries:
- processing standard files file.ddf, fields.ddf, index.ddf;
- processing the additional file comment.ddf;
- processing additional files of extended descriptions fieldinf.ddf, tableinf.ddf;
- storage the extended description of the data dictionary;
- storage additional properties of the table, which necessary for correct creation (for example, a page size, presence of a variable part etc.);
- storage the additional extended comments for tables and fields;
- storage tables ACS - alternate collating sequence;
- processing data types integer(8), extended(10) for table fields;
- printing tables structure reports;
- copying/editing/pasting table structure through the clipboard;
- reading and analysis of a physical datafile and semi-automatic creation of table structure;
- generation program code template for the table;
- mapping of complete argument list of the table;
- automatic matching table description in the dictionary with parameters of a physical datafile and informing user about retrieved discrepancies;
- four modes opening data dictionaries:
- normal;
- read-only;
- exclusive;
- accelerate.
- review the current version of libraries of client access and the server when working with the dictionary1 .

- review a list of users connected to server in section of hosts;
- review a list of files opened by the user;

The editor is realized as the application for the 32-bit environment Microsoft Windows (9x/NT/2000/XP)2.
For operation editor base functions the library of client access to Btrieve server is required. For operation of all editor functions (for example, monitoring) it's necessary install a client part of access to Pervasive. SQL.
